Here are some of the major destination highlights you will uncover on the 10-day coach tour of discovering Sabah:
1. Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park
When you’re in Sabah, the beautiful surrounding islands are no-brainer destinations, hands down. And when you’re in Kota Kinabalu City, Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park (TAR Park) is where you go to for some fun under the sun. The park is made out of a group of 5 islands – crystal clear waters, incredible coral reefs and rainbow-coloured fishes make them popular for diving and snorkelling activities. You’ll get to go and relax in one of these islands on your second day, a perfect way to recover from that annoying jetlag of yours. So make sure to pack your swimming gear and sunscreen lotion for a fun day out in the sun and sea!
2. Kota Kinabalu City & Night Market
Part of the 10-day coach tour covers a brief sunset tour right after your time at the island. You will go up to Signal Hill where you can catch the amazing view of Kota Kinabalu City centre, the Atkinson Tower and Gaya Island in the distance. Take a moment to soak in the view before heading down to the Night Market where your senses will be woken. From souvenirs, to spices, to local produce, there’s a lot you can see at the night market where you’ll also have your dinner.
3. Kinabalu National Park
Time to leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind and make your way to the great outdoors! A UN World Heritage Site, Kinabalu National Park has an inviting air to it- Fresh and cool. The Natural History Gallery and Mountain Garden there is a great place to explore and learn more about the floras that you can find there. Definitely a nice pit stop before a trekking adventure that will commence the next day.
4. Mount Kinabalu
A tour tied in with a mountain climbing experience to the top of Southeast Asia’s highest peak? Heck yeah! You can’t really say you’ve been to Sabah Borneo if you haven’t climbed the mighty Mount Kinabalu. It’s sure to be a memorable experience for any ardent hiker and love of the great outdoors. Get to the top at sunrise and you’ll be rewarded with a heavenly view above the clouds! It will all be worth it, we promise.
5. Selingan Turtle Island
There’s nothing quite like watching turtles making their way to shore to lay their eggs and also witnessing cute little baby turtles get released back to the ocean. It will melt your heart. You get to experience all this at Selingan Turtle Island, a hub for Green and Hawksbill sea turtle conservation. You won’t only get to observe the remarkable turtles while you’re there, but your stay will also contribute to the work that is being done at the conservation area.
6. Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre & Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre
Both conservation centres are located in Sandakan, just across the street from one another. The centres offers a valuable learning experience for visitors about two of Borneo’s endangered species, the popular red apes, the orangutans and the Bornean sun bears, the world’s smallest bears! At the orangutan conservation centre, you’ll be able to observe the red apes from an indoor nursery as well as at the feeding platform. Whereas at the sun bear centre, you’ll be able to spot some of the bears within the rainforest enclosure from the top of the observatory platforms around the area.
7. Wildlife Hub Sukau, Kinabatangan
End your tour with a remarkable Borneo wildlife experience, spotting animals on river cruises along the snaking Kinabatangan River. Hailed as one of Borneo’s most concentrated wildlife areas, the Lower Kinabatangan is home to a myriad of wildlife and birdlife, including the orangutans, proboscis monkeys, Bornean pygmy elephants, different species of hornbills and many more! The wildlife experience is coupled with a two nights stay at Sukau Rainforest Lodge, a National Geographic Unique Lodges of the World.
